Meet Julia: How images can elevate Customer Experience!

What is the added value of using images in your work?

Images can be used for much more than just a pretty picture as decoration. Digital visualization is a powerful tool to make complex information and data understandable and interactive. Think for example of a powerful infographic, a data dashboard with diagrams and graphs or a 3D visualization of a physical environment. Visualizations of data can be used to share insights with customers or other stakeholders in an accessible way and to involve them in the (design) process.

Images immediately evoke emotions and associations, but what is attractive and clear to one person can be boring or confusing to another. So before you create and share all kinds of images, it is important that you have a good understanding of your target group. Who are they? What is their prior knowledge? What are their expectations? Through which medium do they receive the image?

How can images be used in digital products?

We integrate different types of images into our digital tools. From visual communication through illustrations and icons to storytelling through animations. For example, we simulate complex processes with an interactive map or 3D animation. These advanced methods can really add value by translating plain text into user-friendly interfaces.

But we also use visualization outside of our digital products. Like mapping a process or the user experience. Think of customer journeys, stakeholder maps and service blueprints. We clearly visualize interactions, pain points and opportunities. These visualizations make abstract processes tangible and create support! This allows you to make better decisions, optimize processes and jointly develop customer-centered strategies!

What do you do with images in your spare time?

I always enjoy being creative with my hands. One of my biggest hobbies is photography. I like taking pictures with my analog camera. This challenges me to be more creative and to think even more about the photo. I pay particular attention to the lighting and composition, but I also find colors very important. For me, the perfect photo is when those three things are right and it tells a story and evokes emotions or questions. I’m always immersed in photography, wherever I am. Even in the most unexpected places, I spot scenes worth capturing. As soon as the sun is shining or it is foggy, I want to go out into nature to take pictures!
